Can I Get a Whoop Whoop?

How it feels to pick up a high dollar rookie card of your childhood idol...

Now you may ask what could make me feel this way???

[insert unnecessary suspense music here]

Yes. A 1969 Topps Reggie Jackson rookie card will do the trick. Especially when you only paid $1.00 or so (per card) as part of a find. 'Nuff said.

Thanks for being here with me.

Philadelphia Football From The Shoebox

Now that I've been sucked back in to this cruel and unusual hobby, time to get down to brass tacks and show off some of the junk great stuff that found a home here with me. Tonight's exciting episode stars some Hall of Fame NFL guys.

This was part of last weeks local buy/sell FaceBook post that I responded to, and in the process, grabbed a very large shoe box of vintage baseball & football.

Literally! I'm not kidding - here's a picture of the shoe box in question:

Most of the football cards were 1966 Philadelphia, which is pretty sweet because I've always wanted to complete all of the '66 sports card sets (my birth year). With this one purchase, I now own exactly 1/2 of this set - 99 of 198. So lemme show some cardboard!

First up, legendary Packer Bart Starr. Bart has a pretty nasty crease and a whole lot of banged up corners, but is still pretty sweet.

Next, a very nice Jim Brown. A little OC but not quite as banged up as Bart.

Finishing up with the "Kansas Comet" Gale Sayers. Another well loved card.

Amazing that a random find yielded a great haul of Hall of Famer cards from a set that, until now, I never thought I'd be building.

Thanks for coming by.

Just when I thought I was out...

Well it's been quite a long time since I sat down and actually thought about writing a post, mostly due to lack of interest in my chosen hobby lately. Yes I still pickup the random retail pack here and there. Of course I still hook up with my flea market guy to add to the monster collection of hits I've accumulated, but tonight I gained some new found love and motivation for this cruel mistress of a hobby. What motivated me to return to attempting to write, you might ask?

Yes I've been seduced by the siren call of old cardboard. Let me set the scene for you:

I was canoodling around on the Facebook this afternoon, specifically the local buy/sell page for my area, when I came across a post for a small batch of baseball cards from a "make offer" type of seller. So in a moment of "what the hell am I doing?" I responded.

This is some what I walked away with:

Apologies for the crappy picture...I'm too excited to sit still and scan everything!

Now it wasn't a very large batch (only 20 cards total) but all of it was vintage. The pictured 1966's was joined by several other nice goodies and all at a "just couldn't pass it up" kind of price.

Amazingly I had been thinking about giving up and getting out, but picking these up has rekindled the fire, so to speak. I'd have to say it's definitely good to be back.

Thanks for your time.
